Real ale offers real benefits for runners this season….

With the days finally starting to get longer, thousands of people across the country are pulling on their trainers and pounding the pavements in preparation for this summer’s up and coming marathons and fun runs. But you may be surprised to learn that a pint of real ale could provide some vital benefits for your training regime!

Beer predominately contains water and carbohydrate, both of which are essential in post-race recovery for rehydration and to replace some of the energy lost through exercise.

And for all those running injuries - real ale has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antibiotic properties, thanks to the abundance of hops.

Alan Dunn, Head Brewer of the Black Sheep Brewery commented, “Whilst we would only ever advocate responsible drinking, beer is a rich source of B Vitamins, silicon (which protects our bones), and antioxidants. The darker the beer, the richer the malt content is generally, which is high in Vitamin B6. So whilst plenty of water, a healthy diet and race training are essential – a classic, strong ale like our Riggwelter might just give you that racing edge
